Celebrate World Cocktail Week™
Commemorating the 203rd Birthday of the American Cocktail
April 25, 2009 – The Museum of the American Cocktail, in partnership with its supporting sponsors will celebrate World Cocktail Week, May 6 – 13, with a toast to the history of the American Cocktail. Celebrations will be held in cities around the world including New Orleans, San Francisco,
Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Wash. DC, Seattle, and even as far away as Sydney, Australia!
Founded in 2005, the Museum of the American Cocktail is dedicated to providing
education in mixology and celebrating the rich history of the American cocktail.
The unique exhibit, designed by curator, Ted “Dr. Cocktail” Haigh, features 200
years of cocktail history. Through its exhibit and seminars, the Museum advances
the profession of mixology while stressing the importance of responsible
drinking.
World Cocktail Week was established to promote a better understanding and
appreciation for the cocktail and its history, and to raise money for the Museum
in New Orleans. The date commemorates the first reference of the term "Cocktail"
in the 1806 edition of "The Balance and Columbian Repository"
“We plan to establish a major tourist attraction and educational institution in
New Orleans that will become a valuable resource for professionals in the
beverage industry while celebrating a wonderful piece of American history.” says
Dale DeGroff, founding President of the Museum.
Proceeds from the fundraisers will go towards supporting the Museum and its
mixology program. For info about World Cocktail Week events go to:
